    Jhpiego is an international, non-profit health organization affiliated with the Johns Hopkins University. Jhpiego has been working in Malawi since 1999 implementing a wide-range of interventions in maternal health, family planning, HIV/AIDS prevention, care and treatment. Current projects include facility and community-based HIV testing services, and HIV prevention

    Jhpiego intends to recruit suitable and a qualified candidate for the vacant positions below:

    Post: VMMC Community Mobilization and Communications Officer IQ Project (1 post)

    Duty station: Lilongwe

    Supervises: Community Mobilization and Communications Assistant

    Reports to: Demand Creation and Communications Advisor

    Position Summary

    The VMMC Community Mobilization and Communications Officer (CMCO) will provide leadership in VMMC Demand Creation Program Activities at the district and site level. S/he will provide factual information to the public relating to Voluntary Medical Male Circumcision (VMMC). CMCO will initiate strategies and approaches that seek to inform, educate and disseminate information on VMMC to eligible men to develop interest and access VMMC services in the district.

    CMCO will strategically serve as think tank to conceptualize result based demand creation concepts and approaches, and social and behavior change communication best practices for JHPIEGO Malawi; this will be done in collaboration with Project management. These demand creation concepts once approved by the project management will be implemented and systematically documented to contribute to knowledge management in JHPIEGO and when need arises, they shall be shared with partners in VMMC at national and international level and add value to VMMC demand creation programming at national and global level.

    She/he will work closely with the district IEC/HPO officers for the district health office (DHO) to come up with advocacy and district community mobilization plans. The CMCO will work with the District Health Office (DHO), District HIV Coordinator and District Heath Management Team (DHMT) and where applicable other partners working in the area of HIV at district level.

    Required Qualifications, Experience, Skills and Competencies

    • Bachelor’s degree in Health Sciences, Communication or public health or other related discipline.
    • Five years of experience in leading community mobilization and behavior change communication interventions in a local or international communications program or community mobilization on health sector program.
    • Program planning and budgeting skills.
    • Excellent verbal, writing and presentation skills.
    • Computer proficiency in MS Applications including Excel, MS Word, Power point and email (Outlook).
    • Fluency in languages including English and Chichewa
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work in a multi-disciplinary team setup.
    • Ability and willingness to learn the technical side of program implementation.
    • Ability to interact skillfully and diplomatically with numerous counterparts.
    • Effective team leadership, planning and organization. Demonstrated ability to manage and lead others
    • A highly creative and conceptual thinking individual with passion for delivering, engaging and creative solutions.
    • Ability to work in a complex environment with multiple tasks, short deadlines and intense pressure to perform.
    • Comfortable with a team approach to programming and ability to manage several major activities simultaneously.
    • Ability to work proactively, organize and manage own work and assist others to do the same.
    • Ability to identify, document and share impact chain stories in VMMC programming.
    • Ability to spend days on VMMC demand creation program implementation
