Job Description

Banja La Mtsogolo (BLM) is a Malawian Non-Governmental Healthcare Organization established in 1987.

BLM provides quality Family Planning and Reproductive Healthcare including HIV/AIDS information and interventions.

BLM is a senior member of the Marie Stopes International Partnership which works in 37 countries. BLM exists to improve quality of life in Malawi through family planning and reproductive health care services.

BLM serves over 800,000 clients annually and makes a significant contribution to national family planning objectives.

The organization has national coverage, operating through 26 clinics and a number of outreach sites.

Applications are invited from suitably qualified person to fill the following Temporary position existing in our organization.

Position: TEMPORARY GRANTS AND COMPLIANCE MANAGER (Initial 3 months with possibility of extension)


The Temporary Grants and Compliance Manager is a member of the management team and is responsible for coordinating the financial reporting aspects of all projects of the organization. The person will be working hand in hand with the finance team and operations team to ensure that obligations relating to reporting and compliance are adhered to as per signed contracts and sub-agreement with funding partners.


  • Assist Programme Managers in producing Donor budgets. Phasing of the budgets based on donor requirements and implementation plans.
  • Manage the uploading of project budgets into Sun within the expected timelines
  • Go through all project contracts and check on compliance issues and highlight issues.
  • Meet with Senior Programme Managers and go through the budgets and coding.
  • Review all donor reports prepared by project accountants to ensure they comply with all donor reporting requirements
  • Manage project cash flow – Ensure that cash is available for the implementation of project activities; review all cash requests and invoices to donors
  • Prepare monthly payroll project allocation matrix which will be used for payroll costs allocation to projects
  • Coordinate all Projects audits. Prepare draft financial statements for project audits with project Accountants; coordinate the audit planning, execution and reporting with the project external auditor; Develop action plans and monitor implementation of project audit recommendations
  • Staff inductions – Induct all new staff on grants management and donor compliance, Projects, Reporting templates
  • Manage staff – Set and review performance objectives of project Accountants, Coach and mentor them in order to develop and build their capacity, Review capacity gaps and recommend for training


  • Qualified Accountant, ACCA, CIMA, CA
  • University Degree (essential)
  • Current with any necessary donor-specific training requirements
  • At least 5 years’ experience in grants and sub grants management
  • Excellent computer skills, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook;
  • Knowledge of the SUN accounting System will be an added advantage
