    Job Description

    Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates of Malawian Nationality to fill the vacant positions existing in the Competition and Fair Trading Commission (CFTC).

    The Competition and Fair Trading (CFTC) is a statutory corporation established to enforce the Competition and Fair Trading Act (CFTA) Chapter 48:09 of the Laws of Malawi. The objective of the Act is to safeguard and encourage competition and fair trading in Malawi. In this regard, the Commission is responsible for ensuring that businesses are not engaged in anti-competitive trade practices; and regulating and monitoring monopolies and concentration of market power thereby strengthening efficiency of production and distribution of goods and services, securing the best possible conditions for freedom of trade, safeguarding consumer welfare and setting a favourable operating environment for expansion of the country’s entrepreneurship base.

    Secretary (Grade CFT 8)
    The Junior Secretary shall provide secretarial services to the Commission’s Divisions.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities

    Specifically, he/she will be responsible for:

    • Typing technical documents and correspondences between the Commission and stakeholders;
    • Manage the Commission’s stores;
    • Make arrangements for internally held meetings;
    • Make logistical arrangements for the Commission’s engagements, including travel, meetings outside the office and workshops;
    • Manage office supplies and ensure that they are available all the time;
    • Ensure that Commission offices are kept in tidy condition; and
    • Schedule appointments for Heads of Departments.

    Qualification and Competencies

    • Should have a Malawi School Certificate of Education and at least a certificate in secretarial studies.
    • Should have 50 words per minute typing speed and 120 words per minute shorthand speed;
    • Should have demonstrable experience in a busy office.
    • Should be well organised and have ability to work under pressure.
    • Should be computer literate.

    Appointment and Remuneration
    The positions are permanent subject to three months’ probation and meeting agreed performance targets. The successful candidates shall be offered an attractive salary and benefits in accordance with
    the Commission’s Conditions of Service.
