Job Description

Farm Radio Trust (FRT) is an indigenous Non-Governmental Organization (NGO), whose main goal is promotion of information for sustainable livelihoods of farmers through innovative agriculture extension and advisory service delivery using radio enhanced by ICTs.

Type of Employment:                          One Year Contract Position subject to on funding availability and performance.

Salary scale and range:                       As highlighted in the employment contract in line with Technical Specialist grade at FRT

Position Location                                FRT National Offices (Lilongwe) with periodic field travel

JOB SUMMARY:

This position is aimed at contributing towards achievement of the FRT vision of information for sustainable livelihoods through dissemination of sound, evidence-based and scientifically proven agricultural technologies and services in all fields of agriculture. The project officer shall lead the Implementation of projects to ensure high programmatic, technical and operational standards. He/she will ensure close coordination and collaboration with the relevant departments within FRT and other partners and act as liaison with project process stakeholders.

Key RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop project work plan in line with the donor. Conduct community mobilization and needs assessments for partners and community structures
  • Provide oversight on day to day implementation of project activities
  • Coordinate radio production through planning field recording trips, meeting with knowledge parties and other stakeholders.
  • Design and facilitate partner capacity building in the relevant trainings based on the results of needs assessment
  • In liaison with finance department support the financial management, planning and implementation in line with agreed work plan
  • Take a leading in the project documentation of project progress reports (monthly, quarterly and annual progress reports donor reports and case studies).
  • Support the M&E, Knowledge management Specialist in undertaking project monitoring and evaluation activities in accordance with work plan and M&E plan, including field-based monitoring, and coordinating with partners conducting external M&E on project related activities.
  • In collaboration with ICT4D ensure that ICT platform for the project are operational and functional at all times including content
  • Work in collaboration with FHL Business Development team to map out business opportunities and source business opportunities of interest to Farm Radio Trust.
  • Represent FRT in managing networks and partnership with project partners

Qualifications:

Required

Education and Experience

  • A minimum of degree in Social Sciences and/or Communications/ Agriculture
  • At least 3-5 years hands-on experience in project management
  • In-depth understanding and experience in agricultural communication

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Aptitudes

  • Ability to work with minimal supervision
  • 5 years of relevant experience in the design, management, implementation and monitoring of development programmes/projects.
  • Experience in peace building.
  • Experience in capacity development of national stakeholders.
  • Proficiency skills in the usage of computers and office software packages.
  • Good communication skills
  • Willing to work under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Team player

Decision Making Authority

General: The job requires offering sound and prompt solutions pertaining to radio production team in an efficient and effective manner. 

Technical: The job requires sound aptitude in computer skills, multitasking, content analysis

Contacts/Key Relations:

Internally: The position requires working with other radio production officers and content experts,

Externally: The position requires sound relationship and contact with knowledge partners and other stakeholders at technical level especially in value chain issues.
