    Job Description

    The Helse Nord Tuberculosis Initiative (HNTI) is a Centre for TB and Infectious diseases under the University of Malawi, College of Medicine (COM) working in collaboration with in the Malawi- Liverpool Wellcome Trust Clinical Research Programme and the Helse Nord RHF of the University of Tromso in Norway.

    The aim of HNTI is to support collaborative and multidisciplinary Tuberculosis research within the CoM, Blantyre, with the long term goal of building local scientific research capacity that is sustainable, internationally excellent, and that makes a direct contribution to local and international TB diagnostic capacity, control policy, and practice.

    HNTI is inviting applications from suitably qualified candidates to fill the vacant position of Project Data Manager tenable in Blantyre, on 1 Year Contract with a possibility of renewal.

    Role Overview

    Responsible for all aspects of Data management process, including development of project documentation, Electronic questionnaires, overseeing and support data collection and validation, data administration, archiving and sharing. The data manager will work in close communication with study teams (Principal investigator, Study Physicians, Lab scientists, Clinicians, nurses and research assistants. He/She will also be responsible for the coordination of scientific short courses and trainings.

    Key duties and responsibilities

    The Data Officer will undertake the following functions:

    • Prepare and review data management documentation, ensuring appropriate quality and compliance with regulatory guidelines and SOPs

    • Train study teams to ensure compliance with clinical trials best practice and regulations

    • Monitor and perform data quality control checks

    • Attend project and study meetings

    • Ensure filling of study specific documentation as required by SOPs and Study needs.

    • Advise on the most appropriate data management platform choices for new studies

    • Ensure that queries concerning data recorded on case Record Forms and other research data documents are raised and resolved efficiently and promptly

    • Support the production of regular data reports (e.g. data entry/Query progress) of studies

    • Liaise with the IT Department in ensuring that database back-up and recovery procedures are adequate and adhered to.

    • Coordinate the execution of HNTI short courses and trainings

    • Perform any other functions reasonably required by the Principal Investigator

    Required qualifications and Experience;

    • Degree in ICT, Statistics or related field

    • 2 years working experience in delivering on research data management

    • Exceptional time management and verbal and written communication skills

    • Ability to multitask and work in a team.
