Job Description

Mzuzu University Is Malawi’s Second Public University established under the Mzuzu University Act No. 12 of 1997. The mandate of the University is to provide high quality education, training, research, outreach and complementary services to meet the technological, social and economic needs of Individuals and communities in Malawi and the World.

The University invites applications from suitably qualified candidates to fill the following teaching position:

DEPARTMENT OF INFORMATION SCIENCE
Professor / Associate Professor / Senior Lecturer / Lecturer / Staff Associate in Information Science or Records and Archives Management.

Candidates must have a PhD or Master’s Degree plus Bachelor’s Degree with at least a second upper class er credit pass in Library and information Science or Records and Archives Management from a reputable and accredited institution of higher learning.

For the above position, candidates should address’their ability to meet the following requirements:

  1. Experience
    1. A minimum of two (2) years of teaching experience in the subject area they have applied for at tertiary level.
  2. Duties and Responsibilities
    1. To teach and assess undergraduate and postgraduate courses;
    2. To develop and teach new courses, including postgraduate courses, as may be required;
    3. To supervise undergraduate and postgraduate projects including research;
    4. To actively participate in scholarly activities such as research and Publication;
    5. To serve on University Committees to which they may be appointed; and
    6. To undertake any other reasonable duties as required and assigned by their

Head of Department, Dean of Faculty or Management

Attributes and Competencies

  1. Extensive knowledge and understanding of the subject area; ;
  2. Demonstrable Commitment to academic excellence in teaching and research;
  3. Ability to work as a member of a team;
  4. Good communication skills; and
  5. Ability to work under pressure and to meet given deadlines.

Staff Associates
Candidates applying for the position of Staff Associate should have a relevant Bachelor’s degree with at least a second upper class or credit pass
