Job Description

Holy Family Mission Hospital (HFMH) is owned by the Archdiocese of Blantyre of the Roman Catholic Church and operates under Christian Health Association of Malawi (CHAM). It is situated in the south eastern part of Malawi, in the north of Mulanje Mountain in Phalombe district. It was founded in 1960 by the Medical Mission Sisters of Holland and is inviting applications for suitably qualified persons to fill the vacant position of:

Principal Medical Officer (Grade G) – Three Years’ Contract (Renewable)
Responsible to: Beard of Directors
Responsible for. Supervising the provision of surgical services and making sure that the health services for the hospital are of high quality,

Main Responsibilities but no limited to: 

  • Supervising and appraising Clinical staff
  • Conducting ward rounds on daily basis
  • Reviewing inpatients and outpatients
  • Overseeing all activities within the Clinical Department
  • Making recommendations to the Board of Directors on strategies of improving quality health services
  • Analysing and interpreting data and compilation of quarterly and annual reports
  • Performing surgeries


  1. The person should be a holder of a minimum of Bachelor’s Degree in Medicine and Surgery (MBBS) from a recognized :raining institution and must be registered with the Medical Council of Malawi.
  2. Should has^e good interpersonal and communication skills
  3. Ability to work with minimum supervision.


  • At least 3 years as a general Practitioner in a busy hospital
