    Background and Purpose

    Welthungerhilfe is one of the largest German non-governmental organisations in the area of development co-operation and emergency relief. Primarily in co-operation with local partner organisations, its task is to contribute to improvement in the nutritional and income basis for the low-income populations in Africa, Asia and Latin America. Welthungerhilfe has been implementing projects in Malawi continuously since 2013. Sector focus is on WASH, Food and Nutrition Security, Livelihoods and when necessary, Emergency response.

    WHH Malawi is looking for a Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability (MEAL) Officer for an emergency relief project which is awaiting donor approval. The position is contingent upon contract award and will be based in Lilongwe.

    Tasks and responsibilities of the position:

    • Support the MEAL Manager in the development of a Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) consistent with the Welthungerhilfe MEAL framework, as appropriate, and in accordance with specific donor requirements.
    • Implement assigned projects accountability strategy including a Complaints Response Mechanisms in line with Welthungerhilfe Core Humanitarian Standards (CHS).
    • Oversee and ensure quality assurance of feedback and complaint mechanisms
    • Ensure that monitoring incorporates and consider aspects at output, process, context and outcome levels for assigned projects and that appropriate data collection and reporting tools are developed and used.
    • Design, conduct and report on post distribution/ implementation/ monitoring/end to end verification surveys as required by projects.
    • Support in coordination, preparation of donor reporting in a timely manner and this include provision of information coming from monitoring findings and data collected from field staff to MEAL Manager and Expert Coordination.

    The position holder should work in a client and team oriented manner and adhere to standards as described in the Welthungerhilfe Code of Conduct


    • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Sciences, Social Sciences and any related field.
    • At least 5 years of progressively responsible experience in monitoring evaluation, program management, baseline survey design or knowledge management of emergency response projects.
    • Excellent writing and organizational skills and experience preparing well-researched reports
    • Proficiency in database management and data analysis; and
    • Excellent writing, speaking, and reading skills in English.
