The Lilongwe Institute of Orthopaedics and Neurosurgery (LION) is an autonomous not-for-profit institution owned by the LION Trust. The institute will be established with a comprehensive, efficient and effective system gearing at sustainable financing, HR development, retention of skilled staff, maintenance, data collection, research, and service delivery to the private and public sector, with all principles of good governance and ensuring access to care especially for vulnerable groups.
LION will provide quality services in trauma, orthopaedics, neurosurgery, with the goal of reducing the high level of disability and its economic impact on the people of Malawi, on the individual and on community level. There will be state of the art radiology and laboratory services on site.
LION will contribute to the training of orthopaedic and trauma surgeons, neurosurgeons, anaesthesiologists, radiologists, specialized nurses, rehabilitation staff, and managerial staff for implementation of the new management system. As LION staffing saturates and services are scaled up, LION will contribute substantially to the training of specialist personnel for the districts and rural areas.
LION will function as the department of orthopaedic and neurosurgery at Kamuzu Central Hospital, and will provide quality essential services for free. LION will also have a private wing and offer a comprehensive range of orthopaedic, neurosurgical and rehabilitation services to paying patients.
We are looking for staff with high professional standards. Private business skills and experience, in addition to relevant experience from the civil service, is an added advantage. Only candidates with degrees from accredited institutions need apply.
We are currently seeking qualified candidates for the core management team of LION, all positions will report directly to the CEO
Education / experience:
Bachelor of Engineering in relevant field, minimum five years’ management experience from private or public sector. Documented ICT competence. Certificate I diploma I degree in management is an added advantage.
Successful applicants will be given a three months limited probation contract to work at Haukeland University Hospital (HUH) in Norway. During this three month stay in Norway the team will develop, with assistance from mentors at HUH, the core policies and managerial systems that need to be in place before the new LION facility opens its doors in 2021. Successful candidates will then be given a contract with the LION Trust upon return to Lilongwe, and continue working for LION.
Detailed job descriptions will be developed within the three month stay in Norway, and all candidates must be prepared to apply their skills and competence in compliance with the vision and values of LION.

Salary: Salary package according to relevant civil service grade, including training.
