    The Childhood Acute Illness and Nutrition (CHAIN) is a research project at College of Medicine specializing in child health with a special focus on nutrition. The project aims to characterize the biomedical and social risk factors for mortality in acutely malnourished ill children in hospitals and after discharge to identify targeted interventions to reduce mortality.

    CHAIN project is inviting applications from suitably qualified candidates to fill the following position:

    Laboratory technician (1)

    Job Summary

    The laboratory technician will assist in management and overseeing operations of CHAIN laboratory at college of Medicine. The lab technician will report to laboratory manager.

    Key duties and responsibilities

    • Participation in the preparation, packaging, storage and shipment of Clinical samples.-
    • Participation in laboratory quality system management.
    • Participation in the collection and entry of accurate and reliable laboratory data.
    • Assistance in stock management of laboratory consumables and making internal orders for consumables.
    • Attendance of relevant meetings and/or trainings.
    • Compliance with universal safety methods and procedures for collection, preparation and testing of biological specimen.
    • Compliance with good lab practice standards
    • Other duties as assigned by Laboratory supervisor/Manager or PIs

    Skills and qualification:

    • Minimum Laboratory Technician diploma /degree
    • Registered with the Medical Council of Malawi
    • Minimum 2 years of technical Laboratory experience.
    • Previous research experience desirable.
    • Must have valid GCP and good lab practice certificates
