Job Description

GardaWorld seeks to engage the services of a Head, Credit Control to be based at in the Accounts Department at Head Office in Lilongwe.

Position: Head, Credit Control

Duties and Responsibilities

Reporting to the Finance Manager, the successful candidate shall be responsible for overseeing the collections through the supervision of Credit Control staff. S/He shall also work closely with debt collectors as well as performing credit and collections for the largest and most sensitive customer accounts. Key tasks shall include, among others:

  • Supervision of the credit control team who have their own accounts to manage
  • Implementation of the Company’s credit policy;
  • Working closely with the Billing Department to implement procedures that contribute to accurate invoicing and timely distribution of the invoices to customers;
  • Approving and sending demand notes for clients that have defaulted;
  • Turning over terminated accounts to external debt collectors or lawyers;
  • Approving documentation necessary to create credit notes as need arises;
  • Overseeing and assisting with the clean-up of unapplied receipts;
  • Vetting new customers through credit checks and existing customers by confirmation of their credit worthiness;
  • Reviewing proposed payment plans with clients to regularize accounts;
  • Addressing on-going customer complaints concerning billing or service rendered and work on complaints of service failure with designated departments;
  • Making recommendations of bad debts to be written off;
  • Regular customer balance verifications; and
  • Preparation and submission of periodic and adhoc reports

Qualifications, Experience and Other Attributes

Ideal candidates must possess the following:

  • First Degree in business administration or accountancy
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in a strong credit control and debt management environment
  • Assertive and tactful personality
  • Computer literacy
  • Patient and energetic
  • Excellent organisational skills
