Job Description

Inter Aide Is looking for a Technical Assistant to set up an agroforestry pilot project Based in Mitundu, Malawi


Inter Aide has been working in Malawi for more than 25 years and now runs 9 programs in rural areas in the field of community health, agriculture, access to water and maintenance of water points. A pilot project is set to start in July 2020 and will aim to design and experiment strategies that will support smallholder farmers to self-sufficient in firewood and to develop new incomes from the sale of fuelwood.

Description of the mission

  • Participatory diagnosis of needs, planning and launching of agroforestry activities;
  • Strategy and field experiment designing;
  • Development of collaboration with the authorities and other stakeholders;
  • Logistical coordination of the program;
  • Maintaining the coherence, quality and relevance of the activities implemented (in response to the needs identified);
  • Monitoring-evaluation and carrying out studies;
  • Operational and financial reporting to the supervisors (regular activity reports).

Localisation and supervision

The Technical Assistant will be based in Mitundu, about 40 km from the capital city, with frequent trips to the rural areas in Lilongwe District. He/she is expected to have a high level of autonomy. He/she will be directly supervised by the Area Manager and the Financial and Administrative Manager.

Required profile

  • Master’s Degree in Agriculture or Agroforestry related field
  • Major or experience in agroforestry and agriculture advisory services
  • Experience in various contexts and organizations
  • Fluent in English
  • Excellent analysis and reporting skills
  • Autonomous, rigorous, proactive
  • Ability to work and live in isolated rural areas
  • Driving license, A and B is compulsory.
