    Job Description

    The Gender and Justice Unit (GJU) is a non-governmental organization that hones in on legal empowerment as one of the most powerful catalysts of gender equality and social justice. Thus, The GJU utilizes the law as a tool for gender equality and social justice through; strategic litigation, legal research, mobilization through strategic partnerships and strengthening access to justice through pro bono legal representation, research and advocacy

    As a result of the expansion of its operations, GJU is inviting applications from qualified candidate to fill the position of Finance and Administration Intern at its office in Area 3, Lilongwe.

    The intern will be expected to maintain a financially sound administration of GJU.


    • Preparing Payment Vouchers, writing of cheques and dispatching payments and
      collecting corresponding supporting documents.
    • Performing Cashiering duties.
    • Preparation of MRA tax remittance documents and ensuring timely remittance to MRA
    • Assist in ensuring that liquidations are prepared properly and timely
    • Filing of all accounting documents in an orderly manner as per GJU guidelines
    • Assist in capturing of accounting data into the books of accounts/ledger and ensure
      records are up to date.
    • Preparation of bank reconciliation statements on a monthly basis
    • Assist in compiling financial reports to share with donors
    • Assist in maintenance of the Fixed Assets Register
    • Assist in preparing all information for audits
    • Any other Duties


    • Minimum Qualifications: Diploma in Accounts from a recognized institution
    • Advantage: Degree in Accountancy, Commerce, Business Administration or related
      degree. Association of Chartered Accountants (ACA), Association of Chartered Certified
      Accountants’ (ACCA) certificate or a Chartered Institute of Management Accountants
      (CIMA) certificate.

     Strong written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills
     Ability to work independently with minimum or no supervision.
     Ability to meet deadlines and targets in a high pressure setting.
     Excellent analytical skills.
     Computer skills on Word, Quick books, Excel Spreadsheets
     Integrity and trust required in complying with controls and ensuring responsibilities are correctly discharged.
