Find Your Feet (FYF) is a local NGO dedicated to working with poor, rural communities to create lasting solutions to poverty. FYF envisions a world in which everyone has the right to build a future free from hunger and poverty and its mission is to mobilize local knowledge and skills, and promote the ownership and use of natural resources by poor rural communities in finding sustainable solutions to hunger, poverty and discrimination.

FYF has received funding to implement a project under the Sustainable Food Systems for Rural Resilience and Transformation (TRANSFORM) programme. This is a four-year program funded by the Royal Norwegian Embassy with initial one-year inception phase and thereafter, a three-year agreement. The program will be coordinated by three Norwegian organizations namely the Norwegian Church Aid (NCA), the Development Fund of Norway (DF), and Norwegian University of Life Sciences (NMBU). The overall objective is to strengthen local food systems in selected Extension Planning Areas (EPAs) in five of Malawi’s rural districts and to demonstrate a sustainable improvement of food and nutrition security, resilience to climate change and income among agriculture-dependent rural households. By increasing resilience to climate change, diversifying agriculture production, developing new value chains and closing the gender gap in agriculture, the program will contribute towards transformation of the agricultural sector in Malawi.

For FYF, the project will be implemented in Rumphi District (Ntchenachena EPA) and Mzimba District (Bwengu and Engucwini EPAs). Find Your Feet is, therefore, looking for well-qualified and experienced persons to fill the following position:-


Duties and responsibilities
Under the overall guidance and supervision of the Project Officer, the Field Officer will facilitate implementation of livelihood activities under the TRANSFORM Project in Mzimba and Rumphi Districts. The Officer will be responsible for the following:-

  1. Project Management
    • Develop a detailed activity implementation plan based on the project requirements and outcomes
    • Plan, mobilize and coordinate project participants’ trainings/meetings
    • Entirely responsible for implementation of all project activities at field level
    • Supervise project activities and ensure timely and proper implementation
    • Provide technical backstopping support to communities as they implement project activities
    • Facilitate disbursement of resources required for project implementation
    • Adhere to technical guidelines, administrative systems and established deadlines
    • Safeguard project resources (assets and finances)
    • Mainstream cross-cutting issues – gender, HIV/AIDS, environment, Disability and youth
  2. Monitoring, Learning and Knowledge Management
    • Facilitate collection of data and update project data bank in liaison with the Monitoring and
      Evaluation Officer
    • Timely submission of updates on daily basis as may be necessary and provide feedback to assignments given
    • Facilitate identification and documentation of success stories
    • Prepare and submit activity reports, quarterly and annual reports to the Project Officer
  3. Networking and Collaboration
    • Closely working with frontline government staff and stakeholders to enhance networking and
    • Participate in EPA review meetings and fortnightly workshops
    • Represent Find Your Feet in other forums that foster learning and sharing of best practices at EPA level

Skills and experience

  • Degree in Agriculture, Agribusiness Management, Agronomy, Irrigation Engineering or similar field
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience with preferably focusing in the area of Climate- Smart Agriculture,
    Agro-biodiversity, Lead Farmer approach, Farmers Field Schools (FFSs), Farmer organization, Research
    and innovation, Business Models, micro financing, marketing and gender transformation.
  • Experienced facilitator /trainer, working experience in resilience initiatives or programs is highly preferred. Strong communication and report writing skills.
  • Strong computer skills and ability to use standard computing packages such as word, excel, power point, spreadsheets and database software programs.
  • A holder of Motor Cycle Drivers License is a MUST. (Please Attach)
