We are currently in search of a Director of International Financial Operations to join our International Operations team. Reporting to the Controller for International Operations, the Director of International Financial Operations will ensure the timely and accurate financial reporting for all country office operations. Working collaboratively with country office and head office staff, the incumbent will be responsible for ensuring that the monthly financial reports from all country offices are complete, accurate, supported by sufficient documentation, and all costs are allowable by the donor.

Job Requirements:


Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required

3 years’ experience with international nonprofit accounting, internal audit, or equivalent experience required.

GAAP: 2 years preferred

  • Knowledge and experience with U.S. federal grants and grant accounting preferred
  • Strong proficiency in QuickBooks and Excel required
  • .Any combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of this job may be considered.
  • Licenses and Certifications
  • CPA or CMA preferred but not required
  • Certified Internal Auditor preferred
  • Current US passport required

Essential Functions:

  • Ensure all monthly financial reports from the country offices are submitted in a timely manner in accordance with established policies.
  • Ensure monthly financial reports submitted by country offices are complete — ensuring proper coding, correct support documentation, the submission of financial statement support schedules, completed reconciliations, and correct payroll reports.
  • Work with country office teams to address questionable costs in collaboration with HQ Finance Department, operations and compliance team, and/or obtain missing documentation.
  • In coordination with HQ Finance department, implement international FEED procedures, templates and systems, for internal control, compliance, accounting, data processing and finance reporting functions in accordance with regulatory requirements, organizational policies and donor regulations.
  • Convert all monthly financial reports from local currencies to USD.
  • Ensure the country office cash balances are reconciled to the general ledger balance every month.
  • Compare actual results to budget assumptions and work with country office staff to identify, explain, and correct variances as appropriate.
  • Ensure proper set-up and utilization of country office accounting system in collaboration with HQ Finance (QuickBooks Enterprise).
  • Ensure chart of accounts and project codes are appropriately established in all country office accounting systems, collaboration with HQ Finance for consistency with head office accounting system. Maintain integrity of accounting system by creating a systematic process for modifying accounts and project codes as needed.
  • Provide oversight of subaward expense reports and review and approve procurement packs.
  • Review and process monthly country office cash requests.
  • Provide suggestions and feedback on how to improve country office financial operations and processes.
  • Provide training and support to staff on the use of QuickBooks Enterprise and on financial procedures.
  • Participate in the hiring of junior finance staff in the country offices.
  • Demonstrates ability to influence and lead in a manner that aligns to the values of the organization.

Performs other related duties as required.

Travel: The international travel requirements for this position are estimated to be 15%-25% of the work time.
