    Job Description

    CONGOMA is an umbrella body that represents the collective interests and concerns of all NGOs in Malawi as per NGO Act 2000. Its membership stands at over 750 registered NGOs doing programs in all sectors of development country wide. These NGOs are both local and international.

    In an effort to strengthen capacity, CONGOMA with support from IM Swedish Development Partner would like to recruit a Communications Officer. This will assist CONGOMA to strengthen communication, coordination, marketing, documentation and fundraising capacity. The key responsibilities of the job are as below.


    • Take lead in the documentation and communication function of CONGOMA
    • Identify and implement communication and marketing strategies for CONGOMA and its member NGOs to key stakeholders
    • Update CONGOMA website and revamp the Resource Centre
    • Attend to official enquiries about CONGOMA and NGOs in collaboration with other members of staff
    • Attend to membership issues/concerns
    • Draft project and annual reports
    • Assist in developing fundraising plans
    • Assist in identifying new grant windows and develop funding grant documents
    • Assist in registration of NGOs with CONGOMA
    • Assist in identifying information needs of member NGOs, District CSO networks and Sector Networks
    • Attend to any other duties as assigned to from time to time by Executive Director or management


    • First degree in Journalism or Communications/information management / Development Communication from a Government recognized institution
    • Minimum of 3 years relevant experience at senior level in communication, fundraising and coordination
    •  Excellent knowledge of development issues in Malawi
    • Excellent written and spoken English
    •  Excellent knowledge and skills in managing websites and libraries
    •  Excellent knowledge of the following computer packages: word, PowerPoint, publisher/quark express/page maker etc
    • Familiarity with the work of NGOs in Malawi
    • Good knowledge of governance, marketing, capacity building and advocacy issues
    • A self-starter that can work with minimum supervision
    • Good supervisory skills

    For this position, CONGOMA offers the following:

    • Two years renewable Contract
