Faculty of Medicine
Radiology is key in the diagnostic process in all disciplines of clinical medicine. Radiologists are critical in the training of undergraduate and postgraduate medical graduates and other allied health care workers involved in clinical practice.
This position will promote and develop expertise in radiology in the College of Medicine through innovative teaching, clinical service and research.
While initially emphasis will be on teaching in existing undergraduate and postgraduate medical programmes, the college aims to develop undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in radiography and radiology as well as bespoke in-service courses in diagnostic imaging. Currently there is no institution that offers undergraduate or postgraduate training in diagnostic imaging and radiology in Malawi.
The college would like to address this obvious gap.
Duties and Responsibilities
Teach students at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
Conduct clear, fair and rigorous student assessments within college established policies.
Remain up-to-date with developments in pedagogy and technology-enhanced learning and ensure timely use of these developments in teaching and learning.
Ensure quality of learning and teaching through course monitoring and quality management and enhancement activities.
Provide radiological expertise and service to clinical disciplines.
Provide radiology and diagnostic imaging training to students in a clinical setting.
Develop continuing professional development programs and in-service trainings.
Develop new innovative teaching programs at undergraduate and postgraduate levels in radiology and diagnostic imaging through strategic collaborations with local and external partners.
Conduct research in the area of radiology or diagnostic imaging.
Conduct innovative research in emerging fields related to diagnostic imaging, radiology, and clinical disciplines through collaborations with research institutions.
Supervise student research and mentor junior colleagues and trainees.
Work collaboratively with clinical colleagues in clinical service provision and other outreach activities.
Provide an excellent clinical role model for students and colleagues
Develop and provide leadership in clinical radiology services for the College of Medicine Clinic
Supervise students during clinical attachments
Participate in academic decision-making and serve on Faculty, College, and University committees.
Applicants must have the following:
A medical degree from a recognized institution.
At least Master’s degree or Fellowship training in radiology, from a recognised institution. Those with higher postgraduate academic and/or professional qualifications will have an added advantage.
At least 2 years of clinical practice in radiology as a specialist after attainment of the postgraduate qualification.
Current registration and in good standing with the Malawi Medical Council or similar regulatory authority.
Enthusiasm to work effectively as an individual or in a team environment.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Capacity to generate income through participation in enterprise activities.
