Position Summary

The Assistant Lecturer post is a training position within the academic ranks of the University. The post holder will be required to attain the relevant postgraduate qualification in order to satisfy the requirement for appointment on the substantive Lecturer post. The successful candidate will be offered a 2-year renewable contract until attainment of relevant postgraduate qualifications, at which point the contract will be converted to permanent contract at Lecturer grade, for unspecified period. Most local postgraduate training programmes are for four years.

This post is reserved for Malawian Nationals.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Teaching

  • Teach students under the supervision of a senior academic member of staff

  • Conduct demonstrations and tutorials

  • Set exams under the supervision of a senior academic member of staff

  • Assist in the assessment of students

  1. Student attachment/Clinical Supervision

  • Assist in the supervision of students on attachment and during clinical sessions

  1. Research

  • Write concept notes in consultation with senior academic members of the department

  • Participate in writing research proposals and submit them for funding

  • Participate in conducting research in collaboration with senior members of staff

  • Participate in disseminating of research results at conferences and in publications

  1. Administrative Duties

  • Attend departmental, faculty, College and other meetings as required.

Requirements

The applicants must have the following:

  • Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) degree or its equivalent, from a reputable institution.

  • At least 2 years of post-internship experience.

  • Registration and in good standing with the Medical Council of Malawi.
