Reporting to: Blantyre HIV Prevention Coordinator
Purpose of the job:
This position will support the comprehensive, consistent and appropriate implementation of the BPS. The position will help in ensuring that project meetings are well coordinated and relevant project reports are timely compiled and submitted.
Duties and Key Responsibilities
a. Coordination, scheduling, correspondence, and other day-to-day support to the HIV Prevention Coordinator, including (but not limited to):
i) Supporting role of BPS Project Management Team (PMT) Secretariat (in coordination with Georgetown and District/City co-chairs);
ii) Calendar management for HIV Prevention Coordinator, including organizing and coordinating project meetings for PMT and other working groups (as assigned);
iii) Ongoing liaison with Georgetown BPS Consortium Secretariat, namely Secretariat Coordinator;
iv) Coordination support to Blantyre City and District Councils in the development, implementation and monitoring of HIV Prevention interventions under the BPS;
v) Coordination with other BPS Consortium partners;
vi) Compiling consolidated weekly, monthly and quarterly progress project reports;
vii) Manage arrangements and itinerary planning for Georgetown team and other BPS Consortium members when traveling to Malawi on behalf of BPS;
b. Providing technical and advisory support, including but not limited to,
i) Blantyre City and District Councils, local NGOs and private sector organisations to ensure effective implementation of the Blantyre Prevention Strategy;
ii) Ensuring that Technical Working Groups (TWGs) and sub-technical groups meetings supported by BPS are conducted as planned to address technical issues affecting the BPS;
iii) Planning, monitoring, and evaluating implementation of HIV prevention interventions for the BPS;
c. Any other duties as may be assigned from time to time.
Minimum Academic and Professional Qualifications/Experience
i. Minimum of Bachelor’s Degree in Public Health, Medicine, Social Sciences or Nursing;
ii. A good understanding of the decentralization and devolution process in Malawi;
iii. A minimum of 3 years hands on experience in HIV prevention and Social Behaviour Change Communication preferred.
a. Good analytical and project management skills;
b. Possess an understanding of the district response to HIV and AIDS including key drivers of HIV infection in Malawi and cross cutting issues;
c. Good understanding of planning and M&E approaches;
d. Good understanding of HIV prevention and Social Behavior Change Communication Strategies;
e. Excellent oral and written communication in English and Chichewa;
f. Effective interpersonal, problem solving and influencing skills including being a team player;
g. Be able to work at own initiative with minimal supervision;
h. Experience in working with cooperating partners, district officials, NGOs and private sector organisation on HIV prevention and Social Behavior Change Communication interventions;
i. Ability to plan, implement, coordinate and monitor HIV prevention interventions;
j. Computer proficiency in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and internet etc.
