Job Description

Medical Council of Malawi is a Statutory Corporation established under the Medical Practitioners and Dentists Act No. 17 of 1987 Chapter 36:01 of the Laws of Malawi. It is charged with the mandate of setting and maintaining standards of health care in relation to premises, equipment and supplies as well as the qualifications and credentials of personnel employed at health establishments including their behavior and conduct towards patients and clients.

In order to fulfil it’s the aforementioned mandate, MCM is in the process of filling all its vacant strategic positions. Therefore, applications are invited from suitably qualified, highly motivated and well experienced persons of Malawi origin to fill Executive Management positions tenable at the Medical Council of Malawi’s office in Lilongwe, The following are the details of the vacant position:

POSITION: ASSISTANT REGISTRAR (FINANCE AND ADMINISTRATION)

A. GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF THE JOB

The Assistant Registrar (Finance and Administration) shall assist the Registrar in ensuring that the Finance and Administration Committee fulfills its function effectively.


B. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE POSITION

The Assistant Registrar (Finance and Administration) shall be responsible, but not limited, for the following

  • Formulating Finance, Administration and Human Resource Policies and annual budgets and work plans
  • Assist the professional practice in determining the most cost effective way of conducting inspections
  • Provide direction and leadership to staff members in the Finance and Administration department towards achieving Council’s annual plans to attain long term goals and objectives
  • Analyzing periodic management, financial, administration and human resource reports and forward the same to the appropriate committee for consideration
  • Synthesize all matters concerning finance, administration and human resources and any other operational related activities and make appropriate recommendations to the Registrar for action
  • Implement, maintain and improving financial management, human resource, administration and internal control systems and building capacity of staff at all levels
  • Ensure that all staff members are updated on staff regulations
  • Carry out any other duties as assigned by the Registrar from time to time.

C. ACADEMIC AND PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • The ideal candidate should have a minimum qualification of a Bachelor’s Degree in Accountancy or Business Administration plus a Master’s Degree in Business administration from a recognized institution and or ACCA is an added advantage.
  • The successful candidate must have three (3) years of experience in a similar position in a recognized organization.

The ideal candidate for the position must:

  • Be assertive, decisive, innovative, self-motivated and a natural team builder with excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Be of high integrity; and
  • Have excellent negotiating and strategic management skills.


E. APPOINTMENT AND REMUNERATION

The successful candidates shall be offered negotiable performance related contracts for a period of three (3) years with attractive salaries, benefits and packages commensurate with the seniority of the position and qualifications of the candidate.
