Job Description

Job Position: Site accountant.
Employer: Aggreko Africa
Location: Malawi
Reporting to: Finance mgr East AFRICA cluster
Purpose of the Job
The accountant is responsible for accounting and administrative daily and monthly tasks on site.
He/She works closely with the local site manager and the finance manager of the East Africa cluster (functional reporting) and relays the actions of AFRICA internal control.
Job Accountabilities/Key Responsibilities
Working closely with the site admin, the accountant provides support to the local manager for financial, admin and control tasks. He/She is in contact with the AFRICA finance management in which he/she provides weekly activity report.
  • Cash and Bank management
    • Preparation of accurate cash/bank reports in a timely manner
    • Preparation of cash forecast and funding request in a timely and accurate manner.
    • Weekly physical checks of cash versus book balances
    • Weekly bank reconciliation and reporting.
    • Maintenance of bank account and control over signatories
  • Payments and controls
    • Food allowance and expense reports
    • Suppliers invoices
    • Declaration and payment of taxes
    • Contributing to cost management and cost control
  • Accounting and audit
    • Actively involve in the local statutory accounting
    • Liaise with auditors during audits and make sure deadlines are reached
    • Support internal audits and control verification
    • Ensure a local fixed asset register is maintained and regularly updated.
  • Process and compliance
    • Ensuring internal controls are followed for all payments and purchase transactions.
    • Ensure internal control guidelines/reporting formats are strictly followed.
    • Participate to internal process implementation and check compliance with local regulatory requirements
  • Communication and reporting
  • Prepare weekly reports and attend weekly calls with AFRICA Finance management
  • Liaise with Dubai and answers questions relating to all financial matters of the site.
  • Liaise with the local tax authorities and group tax team.
Person Specification/Job Requirements
  • Previous experience in a similar role is required
  • 5-10 years work experience
  • Fluent in English (spoken and written)
